Virginia Hannah Jackson, 98, of Fairmont passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at her home following a long illness. She was born in Marion County, Hammond Community, on February 16, 1919, a daughter of the late Cecil Shaffer and Gay (Vincent) Shaffer. She lived a life full of love and compassion for her family. Virginia was a homemaker and worked as a cook at Quiet Dell School for several years. In her spare time, she loved to quilt, needlepoint and make ceramics. She greatly enjoyed visits with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, George Franklin Jackson, in August of 1998; a grandson, Alan Gifford; a son-in-law, Richard Gifford and all her brothers and sisters, Howard Shaffer, Clyde Shaffer, Owen Shaffer, Gladys Boyce, and Pearl Perkins.
Virginia was a member of the Baptist Temple in Fairmont.
She is survived by her children, a son, George Darrell Jackson and his wife Barbara of Clarksburg; two daughters, Marilyn Gifford of Fairmont and Pamela Blagg and her husband Bruce of Tampa Florida; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tina and Oscar Calderon, Monica and Brian Adams, Christopher and Acima Blagg, Jennifer and Peter Encinosa and six great grandchildren and their spouses, Erica and Rob Child, Ryan and Nicole Calderon, Amanda Adams, Alex Encinosa, Anna Encinosa and Owen Blagg; four great-great grandchildren, Arianna Calderon, Aiden Calderon, Ashton Calderon and Axel Calderon and several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to her caregivers, Rose Jones, Mary Lou Kittle, and a few others, including the staff of Amedysis Hospice.
In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, all services will be private under the direction of the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home.
