Harold Benjamin Field, 92, of Orlando, Florida, died on May 14, 2018. He was born on May 29, 1925, to Ben A. and Lora E. (Bolinger) Field in Preston County, West Virginia. He grew up in Reedsville and worked as a surveyor's assistant through high school. He briefly worked for Bethlehem Mines before being drafted by the Army during World War II. He served in the 62nd Engineer Topographic Company attached to the XIX Corps -- from Normandy to the Elba -- and in the army of occupation in Germany after the war.
Harold attended West Virginia University under the GI Bill and earned a degree in civil engineering. He worked for mining divisions of Bethlehem Steel for 31 years in Fairmont, Summersville, Buckhannon and Charleston.
He is survived by Margaret Rogers Field, his wife of 62 years; his two sons, H. Benjamin Field, Jr., and Barton Rogers Field; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters Viola Miller, Dorothea Starkey, Burl Duncan and Velma Ball, and his brother George Field.
Friends may call at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont on Friday from 4pm to 8pm. Services will be on Saturday, May 19, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Clyde Beard officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, West Virginia Chapter, 162 Court St., Charleston, WV 25301.
