Dallas Dale Baker, 81, of Fairmont passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at his home following a long illness. He was born in Fairmont on April 30, 1936, a son of the late Oregon Scott Baker and Nancy Ida (Reeves) Baker.
Dallas is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Margaret (Bright) Baker.
He served with the Army National Guard in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Dallas retired from Thorofare Markets and OC Cluss Lumber in Fairmont. In addition, he did woodworking, furniture building, and was a farmer.
Dallas was a faithful Christian, and attended Victory Baptist Church, Fellowship Baptist Church, and most recently Sarrietta Church. He was a devoted husband, father, a hero, and spoiler of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Rodney Baker and wife Cathy of Fairmont; his daughters Beverly Bart and husband Bob of Shinnston, Janie Shipp and husband Ralph of Grafton, Karen Swiger and Ron Webb of Dunbar, and Paulette Gladwell and husband Jon of Fairmont; his grandchildren and their spouses, Kenneth, Dale (Kathy) , Mary Margaret (Tim), Ernie (Jennifer), Christie (Mark), Holly, Josh (Brittany), Angie (Ted), John (Christen), Josh (Courtney), John (Peggy), Cierra, Dacota, Jessica (Chris), and Jacob; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is his brother Nelson Baker of Richard; his sisters Phyllis Wilson of Fairmont, and Bernice Wyer of Akron, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dallas was preceded in death by his sisters Maxine Boyce, Ruth Kittle, and Lucille Davis; his wife's parents, John and Myrtle Bright; and his wife's siblings Bob Bright, Shelby Drose, Dixie Rinehart, Betty McKinney, Lily Fox, and Junior Bright.
Friends and family may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont on Friday from 1pm to 8pm, and on Saturday from 11am to 1pm. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the funeral home, with Pastor Rodney Baker and Pastor Glenn Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
