Annie Bell Collins, 97, of Farmington, WV, departed this life on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Fairmont Regional Medical Center surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She was born in Wake Forest, North Carolina on September 21, 1920, a daughter of the late Benjamin Horton and Pearl (Spivey) Horton.
Annie was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a proud graduate of Dunbar High School and a faithful member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She tutored, mentored and was a confidant to the youth & adults of her community. She loved people and was the real deal, (what you see is what you get), and generally what you got was unconditional love and the truth.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Marzell T. Collins, Sr.; two sons, Clarence B. "Chicken" Collins, Sr. and Marzell T. Collins, Jr.; a granddaughter, DeEtta K. Clark; a son-in-law, Edward R. Black; and three brothers, Thermon Horton, Sr., Vernon Horton, and LeRoy Horton.
Mrs. Collins is survived by a son, Rodney Collins of Fairmont; six daughters and their spouses, Martha and Joseph Smith of Beckley, Ernestine Chambers of Fairmont, Etta and Jerome Hickerson of Fairmont, Carolyn Black of Fairmont, Joyce and Miller Hall of Beckley, Vickie Collins of Alexandria, Virginia; 21 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 19 great great grandchildren; several nieces and a host of friends and neighbors.
Friends and family will be received at Morning Star Baptist Church, 100 McKinney Street, Fairmont, on Friday from 4 pm to 8 pm and on Saturday from 11 am to noon. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the church with Rev. Wesley Dobbs officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
